The Old Manse Annexe / East Hardwick, Wakefield / Completed 2024
Delineating between the old and new; This single storey annexe dwelling stands aside a historical Manse property which dates back to the early 1800's. Our approach was to adopt a design which remained clearly subservient to the host property in terms of its scale and prominence. A contemporary form with clean lines and crisp detailing draws a clear delineation between the differing periods in which the two buildings were built. A subtle material palette largely defined by tonally complementary brickwork helps provide a visual and textural link to tie the two buildings to one another.

Hay Barn Conversion / Lymm, Cheshire / Completed 2025
Reuse and repurpose. Across our country are a wealth of beautiful, unused agricultural buildings, no longer required for the purpose for which they were built, often disused and falling into disrepair. This old hay barn to the outskirts of Lymm was no exception. Consisting of only 8no solid brickwork piers with a slate clad timber roof over, this open hay barn was converted to form two new semi-detached dwellings. Our aim was to retain the character of the original barn as far as feasibly possible. This was approached by treating and infilling the large openings between the structural piers with large glazed expanses, and Siberian Larch timber cladded areas to the solid elements. Vertical timber slatted elements then pay homage to the original siding which would have been used to protect hay, whilst also acting as fall restraint for full height openable sliding doors to upper levels.

Upton Avenue Extension / Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire / Completed 2022
Local Planning restrictions dictated that the proposed design of this two storey side and single storey rear extension was to match the existing architecture and maintain the appearance of the street scene. This was adhered to as closely as feasibly possible. The existing and proposed elevations were tied into one another seamlessly, with existing brick and material details forensically replicated. To the rear, where planning restrictions were not quite so stringent, a more contemporary approach was applied to the single storey rear extension, utilising clipped eaves and an expansive tri-slide ultra slimline sliding door system.
Undertaking a building project from inception to completion can be an incredibly time consuming process. As a relatively young architectural practice, a significant portion of our work is largely still somewhere in the pipeline. Below are a selection of our current and ongoing projects which we hope to have completed photography for in the coming months and years.

Oak Barn / Lymm
An ode to an old barn. Clad almost entirely in black corrugated metal, this new dwelling is to be a contemporary interpretation of the agricultural barn which it is to replace; drawing inspiration from its asymmetric form and rugged materiality. A unique contemporary approach to the design has been adopted, resulting in a simple, modern, barn like form, enveloped in black corrugated metal cladding, with a playful order to the punched window and door openings which occupy the façade.

Cowley Lane Stables / Dronfield
Nestled into the landscape on a sensitive site in the North East Derbyshire countryside, this new build dwelling occupies the site of an existing stable block and will comprise of part dwelling part stable. Designed to retain an agricultural stable like aesthetic, new the proposals include a large four bedroom dwelling, clad in natural timber cladding, with large punched window openings strategically positioned to target stunning countryside views. The building as a whole is nestled into the landscape, with the considerate and contextual nature of the proposals welcomed by the Local Planning Authority during determination of the Planning Application.
Current stage - Planning Permission granted

Walton Range / Walton, Wakefield
Situated on sensitive site in the Yorkshire countryside to the South of Wakefield, four bespoke new dwellings are to be built on the site of an old golf driving range for four individual clients. Due to the sensitive nature and rural setting, the Local Planning Authority stipulated that the layout and appearance was to reflect that of a farm stead, forming a tight cluster of farm like buildings. The proposals consequently resemble a cluster of converted farm buildings, faced with materials commonly found within the local context and vernacular. Each dwelling has then been designed to meet the specific needs of the individual clients, with the aesthetic styling also reflecting their individual tastes as far as practicable within the constraints enforced by the LPA.
Current stage - Under Construction
